Technical Deep Dive
Understanding the manufacturing processes and materials behind our carbon fibre components
FRP (Fibre Reinforced Polymer)
FRP is a composite made from carbon fibre and reinforced polymers. When you choose the FRP option from Twenty Two Tuning, your part arrives in a primed black, grey, or white finish, ready for professional preparation and paint.
FRP should always be installed by a professional familiar with carbon and FRP components. This ensures proper alignment, the best fitment, and a clean final finish.
Small marks or pockmarks are completely normal and are part of the resin process used in FRP. These are not defects.
CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer)
CFRP, often called wet carbon, is made by combining carbon fibre with a polymer resin. This resin binds the fibres together, giving the material its shape, strength, and durability.
CFRP offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, making it ideal for automotive parts, motorsport applications, and premium components across various industries.
This is the material used for the majority of carbon fibre parts at Twenty Two Tuning.
Dry Carbon (Pre-Preg)
Dry carbon refers to the manufacturing method, not the material being "dry." It uses pre-preg carbon sheets that are pre-impregnated with resin before molding. The parts are then cured in an autoclave, where high pressure and heat create extremely light and strong components.
Dry carbon is considered a premium upgrade because of its superior strength, reduced weight, and the precision of the manufacturing process. It is also more costly due to the complexity of production.
Manufacturing Process Comparison
💎 CFRP (Wet Carbon)
- Carbon fibre laid into mold manually
- Saturated with resin during layup
- Cured at atmospheric pressure
- Excellent strength-to-weight ratio
- Cost-effective premium option
- Used for majority of our parts
🏆 Dry Carbon (Pre-Preg)
- Pre-impregnated carbon sheets
- Resin already applied to fibres
- Autoclave cured (high pressure/heat)
- Best strength-to-weight ratio
- Premium pricing due to complexity
- Clearly labeled when available
💡 What This Means for You
Unless stated otherwise, all Twenty Two Tuning carbon fibre parts are made from CFRP. We use CFRP because it offers the perfect balance of strength, durability, and value — giving you premium carbon parts without unnecessary cost.
For those looking for the highest performance and the lightest possible components, we offer a selection of dry carbon products. These items will always be clearly labelled in the product title or description.
