Technical Deep Dive
Understanding the manufacturing processes and materials behind our carbon fibre components
FRP (Fibre Reinforced Polymer)
FRP is a composite made from carbon fibre and reinforced polymers. When you choose the FRP option from Twenty Two Tuning, your part arrives in a primed black, grey, or white finish, ready for professional preparation and paint.
FRP should always be installed by a professional familiar with carbon and FRP components. This ensures proper alignment, the best fitment, and a clean final finish.
Small marks or pockmarks are completely normal and are part of the resin process used in FRP. These are not defects.
CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer)
CFRP, often called wet carbon, is made by combining carbon fibre with a polymer resin. This resin binds the fibres together, giving the material its shape, strength, and durability.
CFRP offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, making it ideal for automotive parts, motorsport applications, and premium components across various industries.
This is the material used for the majority of carbon fibre parts at Twenty Two Tuning.
Dry Carbon (Pre-Preg)
Dry carbon refers to the manufacturing method, not the material being "dry." It uses pre-preg carbon sheets that are pre-impregnated with resin before molding. The parts are then cured in an autoclave, where high pressure and heat create extremely light and strong components.
Dry carbon is considered a premium upgrade because of its superior strength, reduced weight, and the precision of the manufacturing process. It is also more costly due to the complexity of production.
Manufacturing Process Comparison
💎 CFRP (Wet Carbon)
- Carbon fibre laid into mold manually
- Saturated with resin during layup
- Cured at atmospheric pressure
- Excellent strength-to-weight ratio
- Cost-effective premium option
- Used for majority of our parts
🏆 Dry Carbon (Pre-Preg)
- Pre-impregnated carbon sheets
- Resin already applied to fibres
- Autoclave cured (high pressure/heat)
- Best strength-to-weight ratio
- Premium pricing due to complexity
- Clearly labeled when available
💡 What This Means for You
Unless stated otherwise, all Twenty Two Tuning carbon fibre parts are made from CFRP. We use CFRP because it offers the perfect balance of strength, durability, and value — giving you premium carbon parts without unnecessary cost.
For those looking for the highest performance and the lightest possible components, we offer a selection of dry carbon products. These items will always be clearly labelled in the product title or description.
Material Guide
Understanding the different materials we use helps you make the best choice for your build. Each material has unique characteristics, benefits, and care requirements.
FRP (Fibre Reinforced Polymer)
📋 Characteristics
FRP parts are made using a blend of reinforcing fibres and a polymer resin. Because of how FRP is produced, certain surface traits—such as light sanding lines, filler marks, or texture variations—are completely normal. These are natural characteristics of the material, not defects.
🔧 Fitment
FRP parts often require minor adjustment to achieve perfect alignment. This is standard for the material, especially since all vehicle manufacturers work within tolerances and FRP can flex or shift slightly during production.
🎨 Finishing
A professional body shop will easily refine and prepare FRP parts for paint, giving you a smooth, clean final finish and proper fitment once installed.
Wet Carbon (CFRP / Wet Lay Carbon Fibre)
📋 Characteristics
Wet carbon is created by laying carbon fibre into a mold and saturating it with resin. This process delivers a deep, glossy weave pattern that looks premium and eye-catching. Because of the manual nature of wet lay carbon, small pinholes or slight weave variations can occur. These are inherent to the process, not defects.
✨ Finish
Wet carbon parts typically ship with a gloss finish. Many customers choose to add an extra coat of clear lacquer to increase depth, shine, and UV protection.
🛡️ Care
Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a great long-term option, but it's important to avoid applying it immediately. Applying PPF too soon can pull at the lacquer before it's fully settled, so allowing proper cure time helps avoid peeling or lifting.
Dry Carbon (Pre-Preg Carbon Fibre)
📋 Characteristics
Dry carbon is the highest-grade carbon fibre option, offering the best strength-to-weight ratio. Each sheet of carbon is pre-impregnated with resin before molding, ensuring consistent quality and superior rigidity.
✨ Finish
Dry carbon products have an OEM-grade appearance with clean weave consistency and sharp finishing. The autoclave curing process delivers a premium, lightweight component that integrates seamlessly with the vehicle.
⚡ Quality
Dry carbon typically provides the most precise fitment and long-term durability thanks to its advanced manufacturing method and higher quality raw materials.
PP (Polypropylene)
📋 Characteristics
Polypropylene is a lightweight thermoplastic known for its flexibility, chemical resistance, and durability. It's less dense than other plastics, making it ideal for impact-resistant body kit components.
🔧 Fitment
PP body parts are easier to install thanks to their flexibility, allowing them to adjust around the vehicle's natural curves. This flexibility also means PP components are less prone to cracking or breaking from minor impacts.
🎨 Finishing
PP can be painted, but proper preparation is essential. Because the material is naturally hydrophobic, it needs correct surface treatment to ensure paint adhesion and long-lasting results.
🧽 Care
PP parts are low-maintenance and can handle a variety of cleaning products without damage. Regular washing and occasional waxing are enough to keep the finish looking sharp.

Contact Our ExpertsImportant Information
Please read these terms carefully before placing your order. Understanding our policies helps ensure a smooth experience with your Twenty Two Tuning products.
VAT & Import Duties
The listed price does not include taxes, installation costs, or customs duties. Import charges vary by country, and any fees applied upon arrival are the responsibility of the customer.
Important: Customs charges are determined by your country's import regulations and are not controlled by Twenty Two Tuning.
Made to Order
Some products are produced on a made-to-order basis. Once an order has been placed and production has begun, any refund may be reduced to cover the work already completed.
When your order reaches your country, you may be required to pay additional customs charges. These are outside our control and not covered by Twenty Two Tuning.
Professional Installation Required
Always use a qualified professional to install resin, FRP, and carbon fibre components. Self-installation or using untrained installers is strongly discouraged, as improper fitment can lead to issues that are not covered under warranty.
Warning: Improper installation voids warranty coverage.
Renderings vs. Reality
Product renderings are for visual reference only and may not reflect the exact appearance of the final part once installed. The real product is always the accurate representation.
Some accessories shown in renderings may not be included, so please refer to the actual product listing for what is available.
Product Receipt & Inspection
When your order arrives, please inspect all items immediately. Confirm that everything is undamaged before signing for the delivery. The courier must allow you to inspect the contents—refusing inspection is not valid.
If you notice damage: Inform the driver, refuse the parcel, and contact us right away. This process allows us to file a claim and arrange a replacement where applicable.
Critical: Do not sign for damaged goods without noting the damage on the delivery receipt.
Painting FRP Products
Because of the nature of resin, FRP parts may require extra preparation before painting. This can include sanding, smoothing, and filling minor imperfections. Some paint shops may charge additional fees due to the extra work involved.
It's important to check the painted surface for any pockmarks or uneven areas—these can be corrected during the preparation and painting stages. These characteristics come from the resin itself and are not considered defects.
Warranty Coverage
All Twenty Two Tuning products include a warranty ranging from 6 months to 1 year. If a product fractures under normal use, we will replace it free of charge.
🛡️ Check Warranty Coverage HereNot Covered: The warranty does not cover damage caused by accidents, improper installation, or external factors. Shipping costs for replacement items are not included under the warranty.
